Curiosities

Taurine, glutamine, thymuline

The result in the form of a significant increase in the level of immunostimulating thymuline was achieved by the team of L. Feuer, PhD, studying the properties of taurine.  Interestingly, taurine simultaneously displayed antagonism to an immunosuppressive hormone – cortisol. Earlier the similar effect was proven in the case of glutamine. Feuer’s team discovered that taurine affects the hormonal system together with glutamine as both the amino acids together build glutataurine – a micropeptide with a hormonal activity.  The authors observed that the micropeptide is generally very active in the hormonal system, and also displays the effect of vitamin A. This may explain the influence of taurine on the ability to see after dusk observed earlier and give drivers another argument to reach for energizing drinks containing taurine during long night car journeys.

But coming back to hormonal relations… The quoted research shows that taurine and glutamine enhance the activity of immunostimulating factors and reduce the activity of immunosuppressive factors, simultaneously displaying synergism between each other – the mutual potentation of the results of their effect.
