Immunizing zinc

The results of the studies conducted at Wayne University in Detroit under the supervision of professor Anandy S. Prasad confirmed earlier French reports that the daily supplementation of 30 mg of zinc leads to over 40% increase in the level of thymuline.

Thymuline is first of all a hormone responsible for the efficiency of the function of the immune system, but also for protein synthesis, i.e. tissue regeneration. Till puberty, it is thymuline that, together with somatotropin, is responsible for rapid growth of muscle tissue in children and adolescents. As puberty begins, its anabolic function is gradually taken over by sex hormones which, in adulthood, reduce the level of thymuline to the minimum necessary for the proper function of the immune system. It is the effect of zinc on the increase in the level of thymuline among others that is used to explain the improvement of immunity as a result of the supplementation of zinc preparations.

In this situations it seems obvious that increased levels of thymuline should correspond to the increase in the rate of protein synthesis and the improvement of general health parameters. The direct evidence was provided by the works of the French scientists mentioned before. They, supplementing 20 mg of zinc daily, observed a significant increase in the mass of blood plasma albumins, proteins which are a reflection of a good health condition.
