The scientists of the University of Nebraska Medical Center conducted an interesting study in hamsters. The animals were divided into two groups. Both groups were fed with a standard normocaloric diet with the proper content of proteins, fats, carbohydrates and microcomponents, but in one group the whole protein came from a concentration of whey proteins. The hamsters eating whey proteins on average lived longer by 60% than the ones from the control group.
The scientists suspect that such significant prolongation of life in the case of the laboratory animals was caused by the increase in the level of glutathione which was observed on supplementation of whey proteins. Glutathione is the most important antioxidant and protective substance in an body. If the results were confirmed in people, we could expect to extend the average life span to approx. 120 years.
