Caffeine was the subject of numerous studies. It is difficult to review them, even superficially. Quite significant are those which give evidence of the effect of caffeine on the energetic balance of an body. They clearly inform – caffeine supports the reduction of fat reserves.
It stimulates the synthesis of cyclic AMP, abolishing the inhibitory effect of adenosine on the process. Simultaneously, it reduces the inactivation of cAMP as an inhibitor of cyclic phosphodiesterases of nucleotides. Finally, on the one hand, it intensifies the synthesis, but on the other hand, it inhibits the degradation of cAMP, which leads to the increase of its concentration inside the cells. But the cyclic AMP activates lipase sensitive to hormones and thus stimulates the catabolism of fat in fat cells. (P.A. Mayes. Transport and storage of lipids. Harper’s Biochemistry. PZWL. 2002.)
