Inositol: antiadipose - antineoplastic

Lately antineoplastic properties of the popular slimming agent present in lecithin and obligatorily in compositions like Fat Burner have been studied intensively.  Of many published works, a special attention should be paid to the studies by I. Vucenik, Z.S. Zhang and A.M. Shamsuddin which confirmed the antineoplastic properties of Inositol both in vitro (outside the body – in isolated neoplastic cells) and in human hepatic and colourectal carcinomas.  What is most interesting, in the case of colourectal carcinoma, Inositol inhibited its development even when the administration of the agent was started only 5 months after the initiation of the neoplasm…

So far it has been a popular belief that the slimming properties of inositol are associated with its lipotropic activity (the ability to emulsify fat). However, current studies also seem to indicate other mechanisms of action. One of the studies achieved, thanks to the inositol supplementation, a 40% increase in the level of IGF1 hormone which inhibits fattening activity of insulin in fatty tissues. There have also been some reports (unverified so far) about the stimulating effect of inositol on the activity of leptin – it seems, the most important hormone reducing fatty tissue.
